Sometimes. I think the tougher part was the emotions you could feel. Thoughts can't control the share of emotions attached, and even in person emotions would show up as magic. So if I was happy, I could heat water like a jacuzzi, or if I was annoyed I could poke someone and shock them.
So it's like magic, no? You can turn a lot of that into something that could be useful? Imagine a legion of enemies charging at you, and you get annoyed at every single one of them.
Yeah, but it happened every time you felt an emotion so it's not like it was so easy as to just be able to command powerful magics. It was more like.. having a nightmare and waking up in a pitch-black apartment because you sucked the light out of it, or accidentally cracking the sidewalk because you got angry, or creating bubbles that literally make people float because you got a little too hopeful near a water fountain. It took me months before I really started getting a grasp on it.
[ ..But it was pretty badass once she did, she will admit. ]
When you could use it on purpose, it was called dunamis and it was something people trained in. You could infuse your emotions into foods and things too, so there were a lot of ways you could use it if you could control your emotions.
[She listens carefully, absorbing the process of this magic. It's hard to picture right now, but she's getting it. Strange things have happened here that she could almost understand it.]
So, depending on the kind of emotion, it could lead to a power of similar magnitude. Like being angry! That kind of magic could also be painful? But something happier...then it's pleasant?
[She can see how it could be useful, but also how it could be difficult because hardly anyone can handle their emotions at first.]
It sounds like that once you got a handle of it, it was quite interesting, and potentially enjoyable?
Not necessarily. It's different for different people. A lot of negative emotions have negative reactions, but sometimes it's just about the effect you want. For example, I was able to make water bubble like a jacuzzi, but not boil. The first time I learned to do that, it was when i was pissed and stressed.
[ Which didn't last, because it was like being in a jacuzzi so it was really very relaxing and she'd usually be useless with it within the minute. ]
I later realized I could do it when I was giddy too. They were both different kinds of excited energy. Or one of my negative emotions caused me to absorb the light in a specific area, which I eventually learned to control and use, but there was also once when I drank something infused with hope and couldn't get down to the ground because I couldn't stop floating around.
Ohh...I understand, so it is also about creativity! Yet also having to master your emotions for it. If you could make it bubble, I guess you needed to remain vaguely angry...about the water. [Actually, she is beginning to picture how that could backfire.] Until you found out it was actually excitement. So energy? I guess it consists of a whole lot of factors.
[She taps her lip.] So whatever in that world could also affect your granted power. Hmm! It suddenly reminds me of some of the items here. Some bubble tea made that happen here, once! The floating.
You have to learn what your emotions do, be able to control them, and be able to figure out how to utilize what you can do. But again, if you can't control them then you do things like... the time I accidentally brought my entire apartment building to the ground.
[ Grief is really powerful. Especially when you're an unstable formerly homeless girl and the only person to ever give a damn about you in your world (not really- but Emerald believes it) died. ]
Or grow azaleas when I'm really, really happy.
[ Well-- happy in love. That was her love reaction. it was kind of a challenge with carpet....... but at least one of the people she was in love with new how to fix things with his, so it was fiiiine. ]
I guess that means I still need to worry about what I eat here, though. Ugh, I thought at least that would be different.
[She's sure she watched a movie about this when it comes to controlling one's emotion. Not like that, but similar.]
An entire building! My, the world sure requires so much self control. [If she showed even her affectionate emotion, that would be disastrous for someone who is practically a tsundere.]
But to be able to grow flowers would be lovely, I would enjoy that.
[Still, she lifts her eyebrow.]
Do you have a particular diet that you require? Or is it because how we need Chroma to buy food?
They were nice. Super poisonous, but really pretty. There were other people who learned to make different kinds of flowers though. I just learned recently and couldn't do it on purpose.
[ She blinks. ]
No, I mean-- you said the bubble tea made you float. In Verens, they had all kinds of foods that would basically spike you with different emotions or do weird things. You had to be careful if you ate anything from a stranger.
[She would never have survived. She's calm, she's collected, she's patient. Also, an utter disaster when she's flustered and heated. Good job tsundere genes.]
Poisonous flowers are beautiful, they just have a weapon, that is all! [Protecting something beautiful!] You came here before you were able to master it?
And oh! I see I understand now. So that is so normal. Here, at least our food isn't. How to say, the bubble tea that made us float was an uncommon occurrence that seems to happen when the natives really want to celebrate. But the food we buy from the stores, I seem to find the ones that are normal.
[ Emerald has absolutely zero problem with the weaponization of any part of her, after all. She's been taught not to. It's not something she'll get over easily even if there are people trying to work toward her not being quite as accepting of her own dangerous nature. In Empatheias, those flowers were born from her emotions. A metaphor-turned-reality of how beautiful her love could be while still being fully capable of killing someone or driving them mad if used the wrong way. She likes how it is-- even if she doesn't have such a naive outlook on it as something to protect. ]
[Sounds like she appreciates poisons flowers. Well, she's always of mind that sometimes beauty is protected in nature by having such traits. Humans could be the same. And while she's patient, it's something that is to be admired. The world is truly a vast place, in any universe.]
Mmm, so you do not have to worry. You may have to worry during their many festivals.

Yeah, it was like... steam-powered technology levels. We could use telepathy there, but I'm sure you can guess how well that went over sometimes.
[ She still remember's Prompto's Shower Thoughts. ]

[And everything else. She winces slightly.]
Many secrets and thoughts must've been accidentally revealed.
