OVER 18? Yeees.
CHARACTERS IN-GAME: Riou Mason Busujima (Hypnosis Mic), Shintarou Midorima (Kuroko's Basketball)

CHARACTER
NAME: Emerald Sustrai
CANON: RWBY
CANON POINT: End of vol. 6
AGE: 21-22
*Emerald has no canon age or birthdate, but many people assume she and Mercury are slightly older than the main group, most of who started at 17 in volume 1. She does refer to team RWBY as “kids” sometimes, though they are clearly young enough to still blend in with a school uniform, likely as seniors. There is then an established 6-8 month time skip between volumes 3 and 4. (Approximation made by writers.) Volumes 5 and 6 are suspected to be within the same year, so leading into the fall. Then Emerald also has a year and a half in Empatheias under her belt. I started her at 20 in at end of volume 4 in Empatheias, so if you count that, she's probably between 21-22 at this point. If not, 20-21.

BACKGROUND: Wiki

CRAU: Full summary but here are some bullets to make it easy on you, so you can choose how deep you want to go:
▶ Made non-conflict agreement with RWBY protags to protect self.
▶ Met and befriended Akashi Seijuro.
▶ Akashi Seijuro learned about her past and abilities. Eventually he accepted who she was, teaching Emerald that someone can care about her for more than her usefulness to them.
▶ Nearly killed two rebels protecting Akashi after he's poisoned. Bonds with his partner, Chihiro Mayuzumi, upon taking them to Akashi at the hospital.
▶ Established positive but rocky partnerships with Neptune, Jaune, Nora, and Roman. Befriended Goro Akechi. Positive relationships with Oscar Pine, Gundam Tanaka, and Billy the Kid.
▶ Mercury told her that Cinder was dead based on canon knowledge. (This will be solved with a canon update she will experience coming into Prisma.)
▶ Akashi promised Emerald (and reluctantly Mercury, per her stipulation) could go back to Japan with them instead of back to Remnant.
▶ Akashi and Emerald kissed at a party, but did not get together until later after Akashi has had time to be cleared of potential rebound status.
▶ Emerald begins a relationship with both Akashi Seijuro and Mayuzumi Chihiro with both of their consent.
▶ Attempted to live cleanly to prepare for life in another world, where she's agreed not to be a criminal. Failed multiple jobs due to personality conflicts or building destruction though, so has not yet succeeded in this goal.
▶ Fed information to Jaune Arc regarding Salem after establishing that her loyalty was to Cinder, who she believed to be dead, and that Salem was a threat to her current relationships.

PERSONALITY:
Emerald's personality is largely dependent on her relationship with the person she’s around.

With strangers, she’ll generally be polite and guarded even if she’s being earnest. She’s helpful, friendly, smiling, and an excellent liar. In the past, she’s also used this to lower peoples’ guard to steal from them using a combination of feather-light finger work, her semblance, and a trustworthy kindness.

With those she cares about, she behaves somewhat more submissively, almost like an excited puppy—easily scolded, seeking approval out of a fear of losing the relationship. This stems from the development she had under Cinder’s teachings as Emerald’s provider/teacher and the first person Emerald’s ever been able to call family, despite the one-sided nature of the relationship. The only person she’s fully submissive with is Cinder, who she’ll do literally anything for (including committing genocide on Cinder’s request but once, a murder just to try to please her). During her time at Empatheias, she did learn somewhat that there’s a difference between reverence and love and that there does not always need to be a price to pay for someone to love her, but she still exhibits some of these characteristics to a lesser degree when she cares deeply for someone. This shows particularly with Akashi and Mayuzumi, resulting in her attempts at a non-criminal lifestyle and other attempts to make herself useful to them without their asking.

Emerald is most her “truest” self when she’s around someone she trusts and views as an equal, like Mercury (and post-Empatheias, other friends). When Emerald does get attached to someone and can be herself a little more, she's decidedly willing to communicate, get sassy, and shows more confidence. She can be a brat, sticking her tongue out or stealing something just for fun. Since she’s tried to stop stealing, this comes out moreso as teasing and minor bullying. She speaks a little differently when she’s being herself, often resulting in expressive interjections during conversation. The more comfortable she feels in a situation, the more likely she is to use them. She’s comfortable lying on the floor with Mercury, and she gets annoyed easily, but rarely genuinely angers. She bitches behind peoples’ backs and cannot understand how people can “be so happy all the time.”

Emerald always focuses on loyalty to those she’s accepted into her life. Emerald exhibits a lot of co-dependent behavior on Cinder, often doing anything just to keep her around and to prove her value, even if it means literally becoming a tool for her. When asked why she’s doing this she claims she doesn’t care about any of it and is only there for Cinder. Emerald is very loyal to the point of having pet peeves about loyalty- her first scene is the murder of a deserter. She emphasizes not making “a promise you can’t keep.” Later dialogue suggests that it was Emerald’s idea to suggest going after him. This shows that loyalty is important and she’ll get her hands dirty without orders if it means pleasing. This is an important thing to understand in her development in Empatheias, as during her time there she had come under the impression that Cinder was dead and had months to develop without her, eventually concluding that if Cinder was no longer there, she wanted to return home with the people who cared about her now. In line with her sometimes murderous sense of loyalty, her insurance of her and their safety was to choose to tell Jaune what she knew of Salem—an act she could only do because she had thought at the time that Cinder was dead.

Is Emerald a bad person? No, but she’s not the worst either. Her motives have clearly been shown to be entirely up to loyalty, even claiming in the middle of a fight that she didn't care about Salem's anything but she owed Cinder- and she has done bad things in Cinder's name. It’s the "unnecessary" behavior that speaks to Emerald's anger. She and Mercury are confident and merciless in fights, they play with their enemies, and Emerald literally dug her heel into the wound of an already downed victim (Amber) with no orders or necessity—and smirked. Though she has shown moments of regret, uncertainty, worry, terror, and flat-out stated she had no desire to continue, she's also shown that she's willing to act outside of orders in sadistic patterns with both Amber and Tukson. As time passes, Emerald has shown less interest in these patterns—first at the Fall of Beacon, then almost entirely while in Salem's realm. While she gains confidence outside of Salem’s area, she no longer appears to be having “fun” with it. The most violent behavior she exhibited not under orders were emotional responses rather than playful. In Empatheias, she’s dug herself a little more out of these negative, knee-jerk responses but still has outbursts when emotional.

It's important to note that Emerald’s a great liar/actor; she “befriended” RWBY and others during the Vytal Festival and exhibited a talent for observation while doing so. Emerald was left in charge of "the list," later revealed to be Fall Maiden candidates, meaning Emerald was in charge of keeping track of profiles of students. She and Mercury actively investigated and tested others without getting caught to report information to Cinder. They managed recon while dancing. The persona she used during acting blended some of her regular sass with a friendliness and kindness that made her personable to others, while still seeming "real" because she rooted her lies in her own personality realistically. These abilities of hers likely stem from her semblance, the ability to deceive others by manipulating their minds to cause visual and auditory hallucinations, which she can and does play up. She'll go for a person's emotional weak points. Emerald understands how to deceive both with her words and her semblance, both of which are likely what helped her to survive alone on the streets in a world where negative emotions attract monsters.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
Aura: In the world of Remnant, Aura is term used to describe an extension of the soul that when activated and properly honed acts as a shield, through conduits for increased offensive capabilities, and for healing. It protects the user “like a force field" in the words of Jaune Arc. Realistically, it's an explanation for how characters can take so much damage without being fatally injured and functions like an HP bar. It's visible as an actual HP bar if one of the scrolls provided by huntsmen academies are used. Aura can also heal wounds rapidly, making scars a very unlikely event as it would take wearing down a person’s Aura completely to cause them to be unable to heal from the damage, with rare exceptions in cases of characters being unable to heal from wounds or being knocked unconscious while their aura was in tact (Ruby being punched in the face by a White Fang goon, Weiss’s head being slammed into the train floor by the White Fang Lieutenant on the train, Sun being stabbed by Ilia, and so on- there is no official confirmation as to what caused these exceptions at this time). Aura is also what generates semblances.

Semblance: Semblances are special abilities that are unique to the individual, with a few exceptions (such as the Schnee family's genetic semblances). Emerald's semblance is of a rare variety in that it involves control over others’ perceptions and is one of the only known semblances to cause physical pain to the user. Her ability allows her to manipulate a person’s mind into seeing or hearing whatever she wants them to, with severe restrictions that make it difficult to use. A significant amount of concentration is required to make consistent and precise illusions, meaning that if she doesn’t catch something happening in the physical world like accidentally kicking up dust on a dirt road, she can’t compensate for it and it may make it possible for an observant victim to realize whatever they’re looking at isn’t real. Additionally, while she is capable of using it on more than one person at a time, two minds can give her an excruciating headache. In the volume 5 finale, she used it on at least 9 people (10 if you count Oscar and Ozpin as having different minds) and it caused her to lose consciousness after holding it long enough for Mercury and Hazel to escape carrying her.

Because of Emerald's semblance, she's an incredibly skilled thief. Emerald was, in the words of Roman Torchwick, a "street rat" for most of her life before Cinder took her in. She managed to survive by stealing from others, whether it was money or other items of value. Of course, that doesn't always mean she gets by without being caught, especially if there are multiple potential witnesses around.

Combative Skills: In addition to her other abilities, Emerald is a very skilled fighter. She has quick reflexes and makes use of a transforming three-in-one weapon. Her weapon consists of two sickles that transform into two revolvers that also transform into a pair of long-chain retractable kusarigama. She expertly wields these in canon to dispense of Grimm, to assist in the murder of Tukson, during the Vytal Festival Tournament against Coco, and in the near-murder and actual-coma-inducement of the Fall Maiden, Amber. As of volume 5, she has additionally been shown to have been sent in first against Raven’s tribe, showing a significant amount of trust in her combative skills from Cinder and Mercury, particularly given that they both have shown more significant front-end battle skills and most of Emerald’s had previously been more passive battle techniques.

NOTE: I will have a permissions post up and will not have Emerald use her semblance without express player permission. She doesn't really need nerfing since her headaches nerf herself.

INVENTORY:
1. Kusarigama-Sickle-Revolver (It's a 3-in-1 transforming weapon-- it's one piece though!)
2. Kusarigama-Sickle-Revolver (and she has two of them)
3. A compass that points you to something that will make you happy (Task item received in Empatheias)
4. Piphron-aligned crystal from Empatheias - It won't do anything, just for a memory.
5. The sweater Akashi gave her for Christmas last year.
6. Her crocodile planter from Oscar.
